2017 Blog Bootcamp Creating Influence Through Content



Join us this year at the Houston African-American Bloggers Association’s 2017 Blog Bootcamp where we are discussing CREATING INFLUENCE THROUGH CONTENT. We will explore the convergence of content, influence and engagement through blogging, branding and building online communities.






Tristen Sutton is a native Houstonian, born and raised in Acres Homes. Garry Lee is a native Houstonian that has always had the passion for the latest in technology, a desire to educate, and to travel abroad and experience new sites, sounds, and wonders. Over the last decade, Garry has spent time focusing his talents in technology with work at Vortex Computer Systems, LLC while gaining insightful knowledge in the realm of finance. In the last year, Garry has turned his efforts toward the creation of The Sphere Network, with the hopes of providing empowering content to the masses. The future plans are to create a full service studio for content creation of all kinds and continue to inspire his generation.

Jonathan D. Davis is a technology geek, entrepreneur, minister, educator, and dedicated mentor to children.  He has over 18 years of experience in the telecommunications and electrical industry.  He has traveled extensively, while serving in a wide assortment of IT roles including Research Support Engineer and Subject Matter Expert.  A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Jonathan caught the technology bug at a very young age.  Since then, he has developed a curious knack for identifying the next game changing technology and technological innovation.  From the age of four years old, he showed early signs of his gift by his enjoyment of taking any piece of electronic hardware apart to see how they worked and putting each back together.  Shortly after, a school field trip sparked his excitement in learning about robotics, electronic gaming, and aerospace.  He became inspired by his favorite inventors, Granville T. Woods and Nikola Tesla who are Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, to pursue an education in the same disciplines. He currently serves as an IT Business Consultant with AstroTesla, LLC.

Juan Alanis is the founder of Big Oak Tree Media, a full service integrated communications firm located in Houston, Texas. Crystal Knight is the Founder/CEO of Naturally Happy Hair, a multifaceted media company that delivers natural hair and lifestyle content to more than 180K users online and in print. Known as a subject matter expert and leader within the natural hair and business community, Crystal has been invited to speak at several events including the University of Houston’s Sales Excellence Institute, the World Natural Hair Show and served as guest co-host on KCOH’s Tre-Vibration. In her free time, Crystal enjoys spending quality time with family, including her husband, two children and three dogs.

Vernetta R. Freeney is the owner of The Truth Confidant™. She is also the Creator/Producer of the podcast, ‘A Toast To Truths.’ Her assignment is to teach entrepreneurs and educators  a mental detox strategy via journaling so they can protect their peace and not let stress interrupt their lives.  She was one of the Top 100 Young Professionals in Houston 2015 and has been featured on cnbc.comEOFire podcast and other media. When she’s not teaching you, she’s being an outspoken introvert on the interwebs, binge watching Netflix, curled up reading a really good book or cheering on her beloved Dallas Mavericks.  If all this isn’t enough, Vernetta is the founding Organizer of the Houston African American Bloggers Association.



Tishea, Ms. Twisted N Turned, is a holistic entrepreneur whose return to natural helped reshape her life views and intensified her passion for empowering the Black community. When she’s not creating, she can be found cooking, gardening, and using her well known gift-of-gab to share information on subjects she’s passionate about.


Known by many as the go-to-girl for all news, Andrea Brown is an educator, content creator, digital media strategist, and entrepreneur with a desire to bring a fresh face to the world of entertainment. In 2009, she launched The Uptown Lounge, an online platform for news in music and pop culture. She currently combines lifestyle and smart entertainment commentary at her blog, IAmAndreaBrown.


Janai Smith is a mother, writer and mental health professional. Her mission is to help others through encouraging, transparent truths. With a passion for helping people, she has spent the last 2 years sharing her experience of becoming a single mother and how her faith in Jesus helped her recover from it. Janai has experience in content creation, social media marketing and rebranding. Her newest project, JayJustSmilez will be launching June 30th. When she is not writing, her time is spent wrangling a very active 3 year old, serving her community and working on her entrepreneurial ventures.
